Description
This is probably the first arrangement of the whole Suite Bergamasque created for trombone in the original key. Furthermore, playing it feels like it has been originally written for trombone. Debussy’s Suite Bergamasque is one of the most popular and most performed piano pieces.
There are four movements, each in a different character -
- Prelude - with fast legato passages in tempo rubato
- Menuet - with groovy rhythms and many light, almost arabesque-like ornamental motives
- Clair de Lune - no need to comment on that
- Passepied - fast and agile dance based on arpeggio figures in the left hand of the piano part
I recommend that you first listen to several piano recordings of this piece to get an idea of the right phrasing and articulation.
General Note
All the agogic changes are based on my interpretation and a common musical sense
to create an expression and musical flow. Playing along will be beneficial
especially for younger players and will help to develop a strong musical
personality. Click here if you want to know more about The Pocket Pianist.
